(Ed.s' Note: You have until 2 p.m.today or until the container is full to get rid of the mosquito-breeding tires you may have lying around the shed in the backyard. Today's City of Brownsville Tire Collection Day encourages residents to eliminate standing water around one’s home and help reduce the number of mosquitoes that can spread dengue, chikungunya and Zika viruses. Water often collects in discarded tires.
Business was brisk at the Central Library on Central Blvd. where many residents were taking care of the chance to discard the old tires. Residents are limited to four tires per person.
Residents can take tires to the following locations:
DISTRICT 1: GonzalezPark, 34 Tony Gonzalez Drive
DISTRICT 2: CablerPark, 550 Burnett Road
DISTRICT 3: VeteransPark, 2500 Central Blvd.
DISTRICT 4: OliveiraPark, 104 El Paso Road
Residents must bring a valid driver’s license and their Brownsville Public Utilities Board account of charges to show proof of residency.)
