(Ed.'s Note: The city finally decided to cover up the damaged paintings created and donated by local art students after they were marred three successive times by unknown vandals.The first time the vandals scribbled "NY" on them. The second time – after the artists painstakingly restored them – they scratched the faces depicted on the murals with sharp objects. Then, on a third occasion, vandals sprayed the surfaces with red paint with the word "NO."
Today, the city finally placed gray siding on the walls and covered up the damaged portraits of musicians and Latin motifs.
Have the vandals won in censoring the creative donations of local artists that gave a bit of color and cheer to an otherwise drab downtown?
