Special to El Rrun-Rrun
Word has gotten out on social media that former Brownsville Independent School District trustee and failed Brownsville Navigation District candidate Cesar Lopez has launched a new meat-selling venture.
Lopez calls it the La Nacional Cortes Y Algo Mas, a business that if we interpret the graphic above carefully is a business specializing in grilled meat, brewskys and spices, if not mesquite wood for the asador.
It struck some as somewhat ironic that someone who was the chairman of the BISD when the Barbacoagate scandal that resulted in the apparent suicide of BISD Food and Nutrition Dept. Silverio Capistran would be involved in the sale of meat. We don;t see any beef heads or beef tongues in the photo, though, so maybe there none of those cuts involved.
When the spoiled barbacoa was discovered in the BISD cafeterias, the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture investigators found that the district was selling meat that had been processed in Mexico, a no-no when using USDA dollars. The district and Region 1 quickly distanced themselves from the vendor and ceased to serve their product.
Did Lopez learn his lesson and now sells U.S.-grown and processed meat only in his new venture?
