GATEWAY STILL CLOSED: DESPERATION AT DOORS OF U.S.A.; U.S. DEPT. OF STATE ISSUES TRAVEL WARNINGS TO MATAMOROS

(Ed.'s Note: With thousands of Central American asylum seekers stacked up along the entire length of the U.S. Mexico border, the state of the refugees has evolved into one of desperation. The Trump administration's policy of making them wait for asylum interviews in crime-riddled norther Tamaulipas is driving many of them to make their despair known to the world.
Authorities closed the Gateway Bridge after about 300 migrants without entry documents gathered at the midpoint of the bridge about 1:30 a.m. this morning. As of 10:30 A.M., traffic lanes – north and southbound – were still closed.

Authorities say those MPP or Migrant Protection Protocol participants with immigration court hearings this morning are being rescheduled for a later date.

The federal government knows what is facing the migrants on the other side of the Rio Grande. If they don;t, they should read the warnings from the U.S. Dept. of State. The Guardian reported today:

"Nuevo Laredo and Matamoros, two of the cities in the Tamaulipas state people are being returned to, are among the most dangerous in the world. The US State department issued a level 4 travel warning for the region because “violent crime, such as murder, armed robbery, carjacking, kidnapping, extortion and sexual assault is common.”

Sometimes we on this side become inured to the condition of these asylum seekers separated from us by a river and a wall. This graphic photograph shows the state of things are getting worse just a stone's throw away heading south.)
