(Ed.'s Note: It's been nearly 10 months since work began on the paving of the section of Roosevelt Street from McDavitt Blvd. to 13th Street. a notoriously bad stretch of road that would chronically be pocket with potholes every time it rained.

The patchwork performed by the City of Brownsville Public Works Dept. would erode every time it rained. The city was literally throwing money down the drain in manpower and materials. A supervisor at the scene said that August 28 was the contractor's target date to finish the stretch.

The crews finished the section next to Victoria Elementary to the old railroad right-of-way before the beginning of school August 14, but it will be another two weeks before the stretch from the railroad to McDavitt is scheduled for completion.

However, they will be allowed to set back the completion if rain prevents them from working during that time

Residents have been extremely patient during the construction. They all remember how Roosevelt broke up after even a slight rain. They can't get it fixed fast enough.)
