The family of Tejano star Joe Lopez – who walked out of a Huntsville prison in 2018 after more than 1 2 years behind bars – had waited for him all that time to come home.

And the family worried that Lopez's 94-year-old mother, Benita, who had waited all those years to see her son free again would not be around to see him walk into the family home. In 2006, a Cameron County jury gave Lopez 32 years in prison for sexually assaulting his niece.
He was freed on March 2018 after serving 12 years. After serving some time under supervision, he was allowed to return to Brownsville.
"She's was 93 and she had waited all this time to see Joe again." Raul Lopez, his brother, said then. "It doesn't matter what other people thought of him, he was her son."

Today, we leaned that Mrs. Lopez - with Joe by her side - passed away.
Our condolences to her family and may she RIP and that having her son by her side at the end have given her some peace in her last days.
