By Juan MontoyaEighteen Texas Southmost College students were inducted into the College's Alpha Mu Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society on May 9, 2017 during a solemn induction ceremony at the college's Science Engineering and Technology Building (SETB).
Established in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa is an international honor society of two-year colleges that serves to recognize and encourage academic achievement of two-year college students. It provides opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership and service programming.

With their proud parents watching, four students were present for the ceremonies that included opening remarks by Dr. Angelica Fuentes, Dean of Preparatory Studies, and remarks by guest speaker Scott Nelson, Interim Dean of Health Professions.
Established in 1918, today Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society with more than 2.5 million members and 1,275 chapters located in 50 United States, U.S. Territories, Canada, Germany, Peru, the British Virgin Islands, the Republic of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the United Arab Emirates.
Inducted into the Alpha Mu Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society were Perla Chavez, Yelena cisneros, Deborah Contreras, Diana Cortez, Kacie Evans, Patricio Gallegos, Yessenia Garza-Rodriguez, Valerie Godines, Jaqueline Hernandez, Jose Enrique Montoya, Antonio Noyola, Janet Peña, Aurora reyes, Samuel Rivera, Michelle Said, Edgar Sosa Leal, Matthew Sosa, and Jorge Treviño.
