LOCAL DAILY CALLS FOR POST-YZAGUIRRE REVIEW

By Juan Montoya
Today's edition of the local daily carries an editorial calling for an audit and periodic performance review of all county offices.
The daily says that even if a jury in Corpus Christi decided that the 23 counts filed against Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector were bogus, this doesn't mean that "something" wasn't wrong there.

"The case against Yzaguirre should inspire county officials to renew their commitment to ensuring that all county offices have the resources and oversight they need to properly serve their constituents and protect their tax dollars from waste and misuse."

Hear, hear!

May we suggest that this performance review start with the office of the Cameron County District Attorney? There is "something" obviously wrong there since it is racking up a sorry record of waging expensive and ineffective selective prosecutions which seem to be motivated by something else besides suspected wrongdoing.

Or did we read too much into it that the daily not mean?
