CENSUS/BBQ: FAJITAS, CHICKEN, OR THE USUAL SAUSAGE?

Avoid crowds, the county's health director warns. So what do they do? How about hold a barbecue?

In this case, however, you will be asked to remain in your vehicle, wear a face covering, and fill out a census questionnaire.

And at the end of the maze? Cheese?

No, Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño giving you a barbecue plate. Will it be brisket? Chicken leg quarters? Or the usual sausage? Did Treviño hit upon the idea of free barbecue plates as a precursor for his next run for reelection? Is it the new norm?

No, he'd answer, the event is being held to encourage the completion of the 2020 census questionnaire.

Treviño said free barbecue plate will be provided for anyone who completes the 2020 census questionnaire. You will be able to complete the census on site or you can show proof of completion to receive barbecue. The census and barbecue will be brought to your vehicle.

Two plates of barbecue will be provided per household.

The events will take place at the following locations:

Thursday August 20
Port Isabel High school located at 18001 TX-100
4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Friday August 21
San Benito Boys & Girls Club located at 410 N. Stookey Road.
4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
