The Point Isabel ISD School Board of Trustees held an Emergency Board Meeting on July 10, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom to discuss the plan for opening of schools for the fall of 2020.

T. Alarcon  During the public audience section of the meeting, numerous educators, parents and community members spoke of concerns with opening schools with face-to-face instruction due to the increase in positive COVID-19 in Cameron County and the Laguna Madre area.

Superintendent of Schools Teri Capistran requested for the board to pass a resolution as follows:

“The Point Isabel Independent School District shall remain closed for on-campus, face -to-face instruction for all school age students and shall not reopen for face-to-face instruction until further discussion and determination by the Board that it is safe for our students, faculty and staff to return.”
The Point Isabel ISD school board unanimously approved the motion.

Point Isabel ISD will continue working with the Return to Learn Task Force Committee members to provide all students with the best instruction possible while ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff members.

(Ed's Note: It's worth noting that Capistran, formerly Alarcón, was principal at Hanna Early College High School before she was promoted to Area Superintendent at the Brownsville Independent School District. Will the board of the BISD take note of what the folks over at PI are doing and follow their lead for the safety of our community?)
