(Citizens have brought concerns to the Mayor and commission but it has fallen on deaf ears. If you could help your more than seven readers in San Benito by printing the letter. The San Benito News along with the Valley Morning Star didn't print it. Thanks.)

While City Hall proclaims transparency and Open Government, they use “Word Games” to deceive the public.

Residency: They claim that the City Manager is a resident of the City and leaves on weekends to visit his wife in Austin, Texas. He is excused Friday afternoon and is at work on Mondays. While his homestead is in Austin and all other legal documents reflect his Austin address, where is his residency? As far as I can remember all previous City Managers have been on the job 24/7 and were easy to respond to emergency situations on site and available. Two former educators interpret the definition of residency differently, “Word Games”

Public Information: Surveying the Officers of the San Benito Police Department, it shows approximately seventeen (17) veteran officers have left the department from January 2016 to December 2016. However, when a public information request was answered, the City only showed two (2) had left during the period mentioned. When questioned about the difference, the City Secretary responded that some retired, found other employment and resigned and they do not count. What part of “left the department” is difficult to understand. They “left” the department. Some of the officers interviewed said that “misguided leadership” was the reason. Leaving the question “understaffed Police Department”? FBI standards recommend 2.4 officers per 1,000 persons. “Word Games”

City Manager’s Performance: The Three Amigos (J.D. Gonzales, C. Sanchez, R. Villafranco) give raves of the performance of the City Manager. He is the EDC director and has not brought any new businesses or jobs for the past twelve months. The City spent almost $30,000 on a comprehensive plan that includes downtown revitalization and parks’ plan. The City Manager hires a Planning Director with nothing resembling the job description of a planning director. The individual didn’t even apply for it. He applied for Asst. Finance. Someone other than the individual wrote in "Planner" on his application.

Word Games continue in San Benito and the citizens deserve better. They are paying the highest taxes and water rates in the Valley. Want change, vote differently in May.
