It's official.
Joe Lopez, the legendary frontman for El Grupo Mazz will be released in about four months following the approval of his release on parole from the Texas Corrections Department Ellis Unit.
The decision was posted on the Texas Board of Paroles just yesterday (Friday).
Lopez will not be released until he completes a Sex Offender Education Program. He is scheduled for release four months after January 2017.
Lopez had been incarcerated since 2006 after his conviction in Cameron County by former District Attorney Armando Villalobos. His family has long contended that Villalobos fabricated DNA evidence to get the conviction.
