This tree was one of two trees - one of them alleged to be a hanging tree - behind the Masonic Lodge - that had rotted from inside as can be seen by its hollow trunk. The lodge served as the county's first courthouse and the urban myth is that the other tree down the alley was used to dispense quick justice.
