The city's historic building ordinance is very strict about what kind of materials, paint and colors can be used to restore and improve buildings in the downtown historical district. Sometimes building owners complain that the strict building ordinances end up increasing the cost of the improvements and haggle with inspectors.
Right across Las Ramblas another historic building the old Cisneros Pharmacy is also getting restored. Work on the original tin ceiling shows the effects of restoration. It's a laborious process but hopefully one that will bring back some of the downtown areas' former grandeur.).
