In 107th state District Court, visiting Judge Manuel Bañales temporarily removed San Benito Consolidated Independent School District board president Michael A. Vargas today.
The district was ordered to publish an invitation for interested parties to vye for the appointment to his seat.
Cameron County District Attonrey Luis V. Saenz represented the state in the petition for his removal.
Vargas, who did not respond to the state's assertions, was charged with DWI on July 5, 2019, an assertion he did not deny.
Vargas was intoxicated by means of consumption of alcohol.and was arrested by the Harlingen
Police Department for allegedly driving while intoxicated.
A group of petitioners amended a motion to temporarily suspend Vargas and appoint a temporary appointee. Vargas allegedly drove a motor vehicle into a property, a Taco Bell located at 1518 N. Ed Carey Dr., Harlingen,
