It started ignominiously enough with public speaker Orlando Trevino asking the board to let him show them a Facebook posting by "a board member" on his cell phone which he alleged depicted that member "getting close to a student, hugging them and posting it" on social media.

That put the male and female students, Trevino said, in danger, and said he was concerned.

"I tell my nephews and nieces that is someone gets close to you in an inappropriate manner you are o hurt them and put them in the hospital," said Trevino, who told members he used to be a Marine, is still a Marine, and a former BISD security guard.

The board - including trustee Erasmo Castro, the alleged perpetrator - chose to follow the procedure  they approved during a recent meeting and provide the BISD secretary Pat Perez and board counsel Baltazar Salazar with the recording during the time the members convened in executive session instead.

They had only one item action on the board, it was:

VII. ACTION ITEM(S): A. Board Request(s) 1. Discussion, consideration and possible action on the censure of Board Member, Erasmo Castro.

A censure carries no legal implications but could possibly affect the decision of a district judge in a removal petition filed by district residents based on intoxication. Castro is waiting to go to trial on  charge of DWI. A district judge could order that he be removed and replaced pending the trial on the charge.

At 5:50 the board entered into closed executive session to consider personnel matters and consult with the board attorney on pending cases and an item having to do with unauthorized receipt and release of confidential information.

The sixth game of the 2019 World Series between the Houston Astros started at 7:07 p.m. GThe Astros led the series 3-2.

Then, at 8:05 p.m. - with the Astros leading 2-1 - we decided that the World Series was more important than a majority of the seven-member board pulling the ear one of one of their members and headed to the library downtown.

AT 8:55 p.m., the Nationals' Juan Soto hitting a home run to give the Nats the 3-2 lead, we grew despondent and took on in home, disgusted that Justin Verlander has given up a three hits, all home runs. When we got there, the members were just emerging from the closed session.

The they emerged after the closed meeting at 9 p.m., the board took up the unpleasant agenda item having to do with the sanction of censuring of Castro for a variety of alleged transgressions against district policy.

Quoting from a prepared statement, trustee Phil Cowen - after moving to censure Castro and seconded by Prisci Roca-Tipton - waxed righteously at length about Castro's "attacks" against board members, the posting of a meme, and said they could only act to defend the "integrity" of the board and that his removal was up to the legal process.

"An attack against one board member is an attack against all," Cowen read.

The board dutifully voted 6-1 (with Castro casting the nay vote) to castigate him for being a bad boy.

Then, with Verlander out and Brad Peacock in as a reliever, the board adjourned at 9:18 p.m. Peacock struck out two and the game went into the bottom of the sixth.
