Now we've heard it all.

Did you know that the "organizers" of this year's "Beerfest" could not elicit enthusiasm among local restaurants to ply their wares at this now-annual celebration that they had to be paid to participate at the event?

Several restaurant owners say that they got $150 apiece for every entry that featured their food. The event was another Arturo "Turi" Trevino, Eliseo Davila production.

You know Turi, he has fabricated the last "new traditions" like Noche de Garibaldi, Gringo de Mayo(?), etc.,  and Davila, administrative assistant to Cameron County Pct. 2 Commissioner Joey Lopez, apparently was seen hustling restaurateurs and selling tickets during working hours compliments of the county taxpayers.

Oh, the event website states that the event is coordinated by volunteers. Who wouldn't "volunteer" if you still end u picking your county paycheck every two weeks even if you were on other "business" all that time?

The tickets to the event held at publicly-owned park were not cheap. The pre-event prices online were:
General admission - $40/ea.
GA - $35/ea. (with the purchase of 2 or more)
VIP - $100/ea.

At the Door
GA - $50/ea.
VIP - $100/ea.

For that price, participants could enjoy, according to the event's hype "a new format packed with more value; entertainment, food, beverages, and fun. The BBF Board of Directors is excited to introduce a new all-inclusive and cashless festival experience!

"Your GA or VIP experience will now include, while supply lasts, all food and beverages."

The food, by the way, was available until the restaurants ran out of the stuff they brought. "I''m going to give them a taco of shrimp," said a seafood restaurant owner.

All of the funds underwritten by the participating sponsors go directly to the on-going production of Brownsville BeerFest and Brew at the Zoo.

All food and beverages were included. There was a policy of no refunds. Brew at the Zoo, Beerfest, Oktoberfest..., hmmm, what'a next "Suds and DUIs"? Where do we line up for our $150?
