(Ed.'s Note: Nobody disputes that the members of the Cameron County Commissioners Court - after 24 years without one - deserve some kind of raise. But the bite they are taking out of the pie seems an excess to many taxpayers. If someone did a survey, we would predict that the majority of the public, say 60 to 70 percent or more, would be against the size of the raise.
The chickens come home to roost this coming Tuesday. Will a majority (three votes) bite the bullet and approve the raises? If they do, they will have to bear the umbrage of an enraged population. If hey don't, they will still be held in suspicion for having proposed the raises in the first place. This is not the place where a politician likes to find him/herself.)
