"Noting his strong support for community colleges as a state official over the decades, Lucio said nevertheless that “the Texas A&M System is the only system poised to take action immediately. ... There’s no doubt where I stand in support of junior colleges. However, we have a chance to have the presence of two major flagship universities in this community.” Brownsville Herald

If Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. had had his way, he and former State Rep. Rene Oliveira would have passed bills in their respective chambers that would have transferred the assets of Texas Southmost College to the UT System and abolished the college this community has nurtured since 1926.
The gall of this demented eunuch to say he has shown "strong support" for community colleges as a state official.
It wasn't until TSC supporters showed up en masse to his state office as he and Oliveira were put their noggins together on how to steal the assets of this community to hand it over to the oil-and-gas-wealthy UT System that our own little Eddie realized the peasants were having none of it. For years he has relied on his orthodontist-created Cheshire-cat smile to weasel his way to reelection.

Like Oliveira, he has outworn his welcome. He has repeatedly shown he represents no one's interest than his own.
As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. He now wants to anoint his son with the mantle of the Texas senate because, well, because he is cut from the same manta as his father. He gets a cut from every water district in his state rep jurisdiction, and even was the legal counsel for none other then the Ruben Gallegos (senior and Jr.) scam flying under the radar as International Educational Services.
Little Eddie III was getting $125,000 a year to put his stamp of legal approval to the Gallegos tag team as they collected some $700,000 each yearly and lived high off the hog babysitting undocumented kids until they could be sent off to relatives up north.
And Senator Eddie Jr.'s Democratic colleagues in the legislature consider him a part of the opposition because he has traditionally courted the favor of Republicans who see the Rio Grande Valley as part of Mexico. Yup, Ed is their chum, or should we say chump?
His vote with Republicans to do away with the "two-thirds rule" that gave Democrats a voice effectively did away with that protection and allowed Republicans to run roughshod over every Democratic interest, including the blatant gerrymandering of the state to favor their right-wing agenda.
In the past, senators used the rule to scuttle measures on voter identification, abortion and redistricting. But no more, thanks to Lucio.
Like Trump, he fawns over veterans, but never served.
And he imposes his morals on women, authoring a bill that requires them to be preached to on alternatives to abortion and make them view a presentation arguing against their decision. Why should they be made to go over that dreadful path once again to please his morality? It's bad enough that they had to deal with their conscience and then be made to walk through that arduous road again to please Eddie and his buddy the bishop.
Maybe he should introduce a bill in the Senate to require background checks for priests to red-flag potential pedophiles.
"Strong advocate" for community colleges? Give me a break.
