The Resaca City is buzzing with speculation about what really happened this past Sunday morning involving David Lee Sanchez, husband of San Bene City Commissioner Carol Sanchez.
Apparently, there was some altercation with the commissioner's father at the couple's residence that resulted in the local gendarmes being called to the home after shots were heard, allegedly fired by the husband at his father-in-law.
Fortunately, no one was hit, reports indicate.
However, David Lee apparently fled before the coppers got there but turned himself in Monday and was booked into the county hoosegow after his arrest by the San Benito cops.
But there hasn't been a peep from the San Bene Police Chief or anyone in the city administration.
Carol Sanchez - if you will remember - is the sister of Moises Sanchez, who was charged in 2015 with three counts of sexual crimes against children. One was a first-degree aggravated sexual assault of a child and the two others were second degree felonies of indecency with a child though sexual contact.
The cases ended up in the 404th District Court where Judge Elia Cornejo-Lopez eventually ended up dismissing them on February 2018. At the time the San Bene commissioner was said to have been induced by Cornejo-Lopez to run against Laura Betancourt for County Court-at-Law #2.
Apparently there was bad blood between Betancourt and Cornjeo-Lopez when the latter spoke out against the district judge's complaint that her daughter had been graded unfairly before the board of the Brownsville Independent School District. Sanchez's candidacy against Betancourt was seen as a way for Cornejo-Lopez to get back at the county court-at-law judge for countering her complaint.
Never a dull moment in little San Bene, is there? What will we hear next?
