(Ed.s' Note: It appears that foiled City of Brownsville District 1 commissioner candidate William Garza's announcement that Mayor Tony Martinez had agreed to endorse former city manager Charlie Cabler in his runoff race against Trey Mendez was a bit premature. After he posted the announcement that former and current Cameron County Clerks Joe Rivera and Sylvia Garza-Perez, respectively, and Martinez, had endorsed Cabler.
After Martinez remonstrated, Garza asked if he would like the endorsement withdrawn. Mendez's supporters were gleeful on the unexpected turn of events given the fact that Tony's son, another "Trey," is already on the Mendez bandwagon. Historically, both have maintained a united political front. It's still early in the game with early voting set to begin four days from now on Monday June 10 and the dust might settle on this brouhaha before then. Until then, well see how the jockeying develops.)
