EARLY VOTE IN CITY ELECTIONS SHOWS ROBUST INTEREST

(Ed.'s Note: Polling site workers with the Cameron County Elections Office may complain about the low turnout in the City of Brownsville city commission elections, but compared to four years ago, the turnout is actually high. A comparison of this year's turnout for the first two days (2,028) with the votes cast four years ago (1,391) shows that 637 more people have voted this year than in 2015. The rate, however, is still very low poll workers say. There are 14 candidates on the ballot this year. There are three candidates running for mayor: 

1. Trey Mendez 
2. Tony Martinez 
3. Charlie Cabler ,

Four for Commissioner At-Large "A"
1. Jessica Puente Bradshaw 
2. Carlos Guerrero 
3. John Cowen 
4. Ismael Hinojosa,

Four for Commissioner District 1
1. William Garza 
2. Nurith Galonsky Pizaña 
3. Michael Rodriguez 
4. Ricardo Longoria, Jr. 

And three for Commissioner District 2:
1. Jessica Tetreau 
2. Pat Ahumada 
3. Caty Presas-Garcia.
