Special to El Rrun-Rrun
To the People of Brownsville:
I hope everything is well with you as for us Riverians is not so good. We are still cursed with the poor leadership of Norma Jean Canales who is turning the school into a ghost town, many employees resigning over the summer and many others are still resigning as you read this message.
The good employees are being driven to other jobs in record numbers because of the the low morale and support at our campus. Last week alone we lost two CTE Health Science teachers, one found a better job at the hospital and the other was not able to pass the test. Tom Cantu (Computer Teacher) left to Arizona to a better job after he was pushed out in favor of Canales' Compadre, City Commissioner Rick Longoria Jr. who for an unknown reason, hasn’t been able to start at Rivera.
You would think that employees who have worked at the Career and Technical Education Department, that know the Video game Design class, the engineering, and who have been sponsors of Technology Student Association wood be shoo-ins for advancement. Not here.
When someone in-house applies for the Career Placement Officer position, they find out it's the old favoritism game which as everyone knows, are usually given to the favorites of Administration and therefore for the past three years, we heard the same old song,
“Hi! I’m your new CPO, give me some time, I will learn.” It happened with Luz Zamora then Virginia Mendoza and now Abigail Hernandez who was rescued from the multi-district bouncing and was chosen as the “most qualified applicant.”
We still remember that Luz Zamora was displaced as regular counselor and placed back at the request of her friends in higher places. Fortunately for her, she made the smart move to leave the district.
Evil Canales was making people believe she wanted someone for the job, but used them only to run tasks for her like preparing purchase requests in the summer, a duty for a secretary but she instead she gave them directives, even some employees who she knew were out of contract.
Long story short, it appears Canales received a directive from her masters because the new hire is supposed to be very close to the superintendent, as she assisted (Zendejas) with the production of her play “Cuando Los Muertos Lloran” and now she has gotten the job.
Canales also hired to other counselors, and at one time even feigned that she had misplaced the applications of some candidates. As a result, the new counselors attending to our kids are much younger and have less experience.
This is just one more example of how corrupt the system is, with jobs not going to the best employees but the ones who are part of the clan. She has even been known to have even interviewed some applicants over someone's personal phone. One doesn't know if she and her friends were in school or at the CC Wings drinking some cold ones.
This is just an isolated example how the best job doesn’t go to the best qualified applicant because everything is rigged to favor the ones close to the administration.
