FULL MOON OVER IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHEDRAL

(Ed.'s Note: It was built by a French architect who became an Oblate priest (Peter Yves Keralum) with Mexican labor and local building materials, more than 250,000 clay bricks made for the church in the village of Santa Rosalia, 3 miles east of the old town site of Brownsville. Only a cemetery remains of that village.

The pulpit was built of native mesquite by a local cabinetmaker and a concealed spiral staircase provides access to the pulpit. Over the years, parishioners, including the likes of Charles Stillman and Mifflin Kenedy, and countless local Hispanic pioneer families, have contributed to the interior fixtures and decorations. And it has survived hurricanes and even firebombs. A rectory behind the church used to house priests fleeing anti-clerical revolutions in Mexico.

According to the lunar phase calendar, it is in a Waning Gibbous Phase. This is the first phase after the Full Moon occurs. We thank Sabrina Gonzalez, the head waitress at George Ramirez's Half Moon for this excellent photo.)
