The Cameron County Sheriff's Department is investigating the discovery of a man's body – a reported  kidnap victim from Hidalgo County – that was apparently dumped by his assailants in a 50-acre plot of land owned by Carlos Cascos, the former Texas Secretary of State and Cameron County Judge.

The body was discovered Thursday  in a brushy area adjacent to a citrus orchard on Cascos' property. Police would not say how the body was discovered, but sources say it was the result of an anonymous tip. The secluded nature of the land also point to someone who might have been involved to have given authorities the tip. The land is bordered on one side by a meandering resaca and on Sam Houston Rd. on another.

The man's identity has not been disclosed, but suspicions are that the killing was a result of a drug deal gone bad and that the remoteness of the property made is attractive to dump the victim.
Cascos, in Austin when  the body was found, did  not have a comment on the discovery.

Cascos, Republican, is currently running for his previous position as county judge in the November general election against Democrat incumbent Eddie Treviño, the former City of Brownsville mayor.

A Cascos supporter quipped that there was no indication that the body found in Cacsos' property was not Treviño's.
