The application was taken by Cindy Hinojosa, wife of Texas Democratic Party chairman Gilbert Hinojosa, a former county judge himself.
She is the president of the Cameron County Democratic Women's Club.
Sanchez, who has in the past voted as a Republican, has run for city commissioner and mayor (nonpartisan offices) is a past member of the Brownsville Public Utility Board. It is expected that former county judge (and ex-Texas Secretary of State) Carlos Cascos will also run but on the Republican Party primary.
His former administrative assistant Cris Valadez said he was surprised when he first heard of Sanchez's intentions but welcomed his entry into the Democratic Party primary.
"We welcome the news. Ware always glad to see that people have a choice," Valdez said. "The more the merrier."
