Four days after At-Large A City of Brownsville Commissioner Cesar de Leon turned in his resignation after racially-loaded remarks he made in a private conversation ignited a firestorm and some called for him to resign, he has changed his mind and said he will stay on as city commissioner.

The city charter gives him eight days to rescind it and it was not official until the city commission had accepted it during a regular or specially-called meeting.
Sources at the City Secretary's Office confirmed that De Leon had gone there and asked that they return his resignation letter.
The commission is scheduled to have its regular meeting a week from Tuesday and De Leon is expected to attend as a regular member of the city commission.
